KUGB Grand Slam

The USKFI returned to the first of this year's Grand Slam competitions, held in The Queen's Park Sports Centre in Chesterfield, England. The competition is held between members of the Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland squads and is held under ESKA international rules.

The USKF squad had a strong start to the day in the kata section, with competitiors getting through several of the elimination rounds. The kumite events were of a very high overall standard, with several new squad members from each country eager to prove their selection. The USKFI had some excellent fights, with the ladies' team kumite match against England a particularly exciting event. Unfortunately England proved too strong and Ireland had to settle for second. As usual, the competition proved excellent training ground for the European and World Championships later on in the year.

The next competition in the USKFI calendar for seniors is the USKFI Nationals in May.
