Liverpool Youth Championships

The USKFI Junior squad showed that they are going from strength to strength, as was demonstrated at last weekend's Liverpool Youth Championships. This annual competition, now in its 10th year, is a charity competition run by Liverpool's Red Triangle Karate Club, one of the oldest clubs in the U.K.

Following his success at the KUGB National Championships last month, Ryan Cullen made it to the finals of the Boys' 10-11 Years Kumite, gaining a very credible second place. The USKFI dominatetd the Girls' 10-11 Years Ippon Kumite event. After storming through the eliminations, Leeanne Royle and Zara Daly found themselves facing each other in the final. In an excellent show of attitude and form, Leeanne came away with the gold, with Zara taking the silver and Erica Henderson taking Joint Third. Leeanne was also very successful in the Children's 3rd Kyu and Above Kata event, making it through to the finals through very strongly-contested eliminations. After performing a very strong Empi in the final, she acheived second place.

The USKFI were delighted with the attitude and spirit shown by their competitiors, especially as many of them were attending their first competition in the U.K. The USKFI would like to thank all the parents who came over in support and, on the back of such success by the USKFI Juniors recently, hopes to take some competitors over to the KUGB National Youth Championships in July.
