Well done to all USKFI members who competed in our 13th Shotokan Cup today. Over 180 Karateka were out to display their talent and skills. There were some tremendous performances on the day and with such a very high standard of competition everybody gave it 100% on the day.
Stand out performers of the day were Leeanne Royle, Leon Hoban, Sophie Farrell, Sinaly Drame, Thomas Luby to name but a few. Leeanne finished off a busy year of competition with two first places and also the Best Overall Competitor prize. Leeanne was outstanding on the day with world class performances in both her Kata & Kumite events scoring a beautiful Ippon in the final against her club team mate Chelsea Nkpash. A strong performance from both ladies, they certainly set the bar for the ladies event. Well done Leeanne, a nice way to finish off a very successful competition season.
USKFI squad member Leon Hoban put on some solid performances in the boys 10-11yrs Kumite event. Leon proved much too strong for any of his opponents and eased the final to take home first place.
Sophie Farrell put on some very determined performances in both her events. She showed great skill and composure for such a tender age and grade to take home first place in both her events.
Overall the standard from all competitors was fantastic, everybody showed a great attitude and represented themselves, their clubs and the USKFI very well. With such a high standard of karate on show it gave squad coaches Sensei Sherlock & Sensei Royle a good chance to select students with potential for our International squad next year.
The USKFI would like to thank everybody for making the day such as success from the competitors, to the officials, first aid, the staff of Phibblestown Community Centre and the Phibblestown Shotokan Karate for hosting such a prestigious event. Well done to all!!
The USKFI would like to send out a very special thank you to Virginia Nya for her fantastic photography on the day.
