USKFI 14th National Championships April 2014

The USKFI held its 14th National Championships over the weekend at our Phibblestown Dojo. With each year that passes we go from strength to strength and this was our most successful championships to date with close to 200 members competing on the day. The atmosphere on the day was fantastic and the solidarity of our members was evident. There was a great sense of camaraderie from the top down, from our Chief Instructor to our youngest competitor each member supported one another and cheered for their team mates throughout the day.

There was as always a tremendous display of talent on show from the USKFI competitors who battled their way for a place in the finals. Stand out performers on the day were Ciaran O Connor from Lucan SKC along with his older brother Sean O Connor put in some very strong performances in the kumite events both taking home gold in their categories. Sean took home gold in both cadet and senior male event. Yacine Ghanem of Corduff SKC was another star performer of the day; he stormed through the elimination rounds with some very decisive scores. He proved too strong for any of his opponents and went on to take home gold in the final against Phibblestown SKC's Jojo Khan.

After an excellent tournament it was up to the USKFI's Referee Committee to make the tough decisions who were the best overall competitors on the day. After a quick deliberation it was a unanimous decision that the stands out performers of the day were Ray Foysal of Phibblestown SKC and Leeanne Royle of Corduff SKC. They both took home gold in both their events after some very tough rounds.

The USKFI would like to thank all our members for their continued support, without you these events would not be as successful. Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing you all again in our next event. Well done all!!
