 ESKA 2018

As the curtains close on what was another fabulous European championship and the teams set off on the journey home, we look forward to welcoming our own team Ireland back to Dublin today. A small but mighty team represented the USKFI at these prestigious championships. Sophie and Lisa performed very well over the weekend and were even brave enough to accept the challenge and step up to the Junior ladies under 21yrs categories. Although no medals are coming home with the girls this time around there is something much more valuable gained and that’s the experience of competing at this level on the European stage. Both girls who are fledglings when it comes to competing at this level showed great determination and heart in their performances. We could ask nothing more as the girl’s gave everything and we are very proud of how they represented the USKFI throughout the weekend. We are sure the girls will use this experience, develop and come back even stronger next year.  Congratulations!

The USKFI would like to also thank Senseis Bernard Gaffney and Jim Bartley for their continuous commitment and dedication to their field of expertise. Their week begins much earlier than the athletes as they attend the referee and standardization courses that are held on Wednesday and Thursday prior to the championships. Senseis Bernard and Jim then have the tough job of assisting in the officiating of the tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Within the USKFI the focus is on evolving in all areas of karate-do. With such a committed team of Sensei Gaffney, Bartley and Prendergast so positively leading the way for the referees and judges technical committee at this high level has immense benefits for our organisation. Thank you for all your hard work.

Finally, we would like to thank Sensei David Royle and the team behind the organisation of these trips. It is of the upmost importance that the athlete’s trip is as comfortable as possible with no external worries so their only focus is performing on the tatami. A lot of hard work goes in prior to the trip so once again thank you to the USKFI Admin Team for all the hard work in coordinating the trip. A special thank you to all USKFI members for their continuous support throughout the year. Without the support on the events held during the year from all our members we would not be able to finance these trips for our athletes and give our team these opportunities.
